Good or Bad Research Resources?

Welcome to your classroom blog. This is the first of many assignments you will be doing on the blog. Throughout this course, we will do research. It is important that you are able to identify what is a valid (good) source material. As you know, you can find just about anything using the Internet. This is a good thing. The more we know the better informed we will be. The downside to the Internet is there are billions of sites to wade through and not all of the sites will help you with your research project. Today, you will be deciding if the following websites would be useful for a research project. Click on the hyperlink for each site, if the link does not work just copy and paste the URL (address) in the address bar. Here is a list of the following websites that you will be researching:

http://home.inreach.com/kumbach/velcro.html

http://www9.georgetown.edu/faculty/jod/

http://improbable.com/

http://www.froggyville.com/graphics.htm

http://www.dhmo.org/

http://www.brookview.karoo.net/Stick_Insects/

http://www.moma.org/

http://www.bigredhair.com/robots/

Once you have been directed to the link, you will need to answer the follow questions:
1. Is the author's name provided?
2. Is there a contact person or an address provided?
3. Is there biographical information provided about the author?
4. Does the author seem knowledgeable? Is he or she an expert in the field?
5. What kinds of results do you see when you do a search on the author's name?
6. Does the site have more resources and links?
7. Is the site a credible research source? and explain why or why not.

You will want to write your responses in Word first so you can spell check your answers. Once you have researched all of the websites and word processed your answers, you will need to copy and paste your answers into the post section—this can be found under the post you are currently reading. Here is the link to The Wayback Machine if you would like to use for this assignment: http://www.archive.org/ REMEMBER: All posts must be in complete sentences and please do not use texting language.
